Road infrastructure projects draw the highest amounts from European Union funds
The Czech road infrastructure is one of the most significant areas when it comes to effective drawing of finance from European Union funds. The total amount allocated from the Operational Programme Transport for the budget period 2007 – 2013 for the Road and Motorway Directorate’s projects is more than 70 billion Czech crowns. Particularly relevant was the second half of 2008, when the Ministry of Transport gradually issued approval protocols for support of another 15 projects co-financed from EU funds.
It concerns support from the European Regional Development Fund granted within the Operational Programme Transport. The recipient of the subsidy is the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic, which will ensure these projects’ implementation. Co-financing is provided within Priority Axis 4 – Modernisation of Class I Roads outside of TEN-T. The total volume of the support approved to date for the period of 2007 - 2008 for these projects amounts to more than CZK 12.585 billion.
“Allocation of financial support for these projects will contribute to ensuring a high-quality domestic road network, which will in turn have a positive effect on the economic and social situation of the respective regions and serve to reduce the adverse environmental impacts of traffic,” says Alfred Brunclík, Chief Executive Officer of the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic (ŘSD).
